Air Travel Restarts at Scotland's Busiest Airport In the Wake of Substantial Air Traffic Control Outage

A technical fault at the airport's air traffic control meant no aircraft could enter or leave the facility.

Air travel have resumed at Scotland's primary international airport after a significant ATC system failure halted all operations.

All incoming and outgoing flights were suspended due to an technical fault that occurred at about 08:30.

A number of travelers found themselves stranded in aircraft on the tarmac while the issue persisted.

Services Recommence with Residual Impact

Officials announced at 10:40 that services were back online, and thanked passengers for their "cooperation and patience".

However, significant disruption are likely to persist for some time. Flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been cancelled, with many others subject to postponements.

An airport representative had initially projected that dozens of flights could be impacted.

"Travelers are urged to get in touch with their carrier for the latest information on their specific flights," the statement added.

Cause of the Chaos

The airport attributed the operational halt to an systems failure with its control tower systems vendor.

Flyers should still plan to check the status of their trip before departing to the airport as knock-on effects are managed.
