Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Soldiers Table

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a colorful mix of personalities, and a thrilling plot featuring divine entities, evil spirits, and dark forces increasing in strength within the urban setting.

Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

The latest chapter finished on a dramatic pause and introduced the premier party of adventurers who will split off from the main group to embark on their own adventure, distinct from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (played by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

With an extensive roster, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

This explains, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, connecting the individual narratives before dividing into three separate parties: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

As described by the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented story mode where non-violent answers are rare.

Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a violent first encounter with the enemy group.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose demise started the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, invading the secret base, striking Thimble, and stealing all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

Casimir then paid off his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd close behind.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each member has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and closest confidant, seeks retribution.
  • The adventurer has experience in Timmony and cautions that it is a dangerous environment.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his relatives’ demands to eliminate the fighter and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • But, their reputation as key figures in House Halovar could assist the team access areas they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, Teor vowed a eternal obligation to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him wherever.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The healer turned against House Halovar and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the family.

This means them few options but to journey toward Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we discover that the combat party will be absent next week, leaving the rest of the players to assemble the Questers and Strategists tables.

Fans can expect discovering which adventurers will be where in the story’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
