Ex-Treasury chief Larry Summers is leaving the directorate at the artificial intelligence firm, just a week after a series of emails between him and deceased financier the accused trafficker became widely known.

Summers stated in a release that he was "grateful for the chance to have contributed, optimistic about the potential of the company, and anticipate tracking their advancement".

Summers, who previously led the Ivy League institution, announced on earlier this week that he would be stepping back from public roles due to his connections with the convicted sex offender.

After the correspondence were released with the wider community, he stated he accepted "complete accountability for my ill-advised judgment to continue corresponding with Jeffrey Epstein".

He continued that he hoped "to reestablish faith and fix connections with the individuals closest to me".

Career Background

Summers served in senior posts under two Democratic presidents; acting as treasury secretary under Bill Clinton, and as leader of the White House economic team under Barack Obama.

He presided over Harvard from five years and is still a faculty member there. When stating his withdrawal from public commitments recently on Monday, he stated he would maintain his academic responsibilities.
