Spurs Boss Thomas Frank Calls Goalkeeper Critics 'Not Genuine Supporters'

The Cottagers Start Strong to Defeat Spurs and Increase Tension on the Manager

Tottenham Hotspur fans who booed goalkeeper Vicario were informed afterwards "those individuals can't be true Spurs supporters" by manager Frank.

Spurs conceded a pair of scores in the first six minutes to lose 2-1 to Fulham, registering their tenth top-flight at home loss of 2025.

But the main talking point was Fulham's next score when the keeper gave away the ball far beyond his area.

The goalkeeper came out to deal with a long ball and carried the ball near the touchline.

But, instead of kicking it into touch, the Italy international spun and attempted to clear away, but lost his footing as the ball glanced off Harry Wilson and was collected by Josh King.

King laid the ball off to Welsh midfielder Harry Wilson, who bent a strike into the net from the touchline measured at thirty-six point six metres.

Seconds later when the ball came to the keeper again, some Tottenham supporters jeered him.

Spurs were booed off at the interval, with the side 2-0 down, and again at full-time.

A particular of those booing sessions really irritated Frank.

"It came to my attention a few of our supporters reportedly booed the incident and jeered following, which, in my opinion is totally unacceptable," the Danish manager commented regarding the fans' response to his goalkeeper.

"[They] cannot be real Tottenham fans that act that way. Fair enough booing after the match, fine, but when we are playing, we are backing each other, we are behind one another going forward."

Tete had given Fulham a early advantage before Harry Wilson's strike – with Mohammed Kudus scoring for Tottenham in an improved second-half performance.

Former Premier League keeper Hart stated that the second score was "completely avoidable".

"I certainly appreciate the supporters' disappointment," the ex-keeper continued. "I am aware the role the keeper is performing. He is a excellent team player, he's a true leader in the dressing room but ultimately you are going to be judged by your actions.

"He was deeply implicated in what ended up to be the decisive score."

'It's In the Game, I Can Handle It'

Thomas Frank Stood Up For His Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario After the Match

Italian national team Vicario is in his 3rd season with Spurs.

He stated after the game that he had to take the criticism.

"That goal was a error of my own, I accept accountability for it," he commented.

"The intent was to clear the ball far and I just hit the ball in a bad manner. It was an more difficult challenge to overcome."

He said being booed "comes with the game".

"I'm a big man, what can I say?" he continued. "The team can't be affected by the situation in the stands. The fans have the entitlement to do as they see fit.

"It is on us to stay more calm, to concentrate on our own performance. We are missing in calmness and poise to reverse results. Today is a bad defeat and it is hard to take."

'It Shocked Me No One Returned to the Goal Line'

In spite of Vicario's error, it was not an simple goal for Wilson to score.

In fact it was the next longest-range top division score of the campaign – after Adams' forty-three point three metre goal for Bournemouth against the Black Cats, which interestingly too came on the same day.

The goalscorer said he was "somewhat taken aback" that he still had an open goal to aim for.

Ten seconds elapsed between Vicario coming out of his box and Wilson shooting – which was 5 seconds after the clearance.

"It seemed to me like the keeper was away from the area for ages," Wilson remarked.

"I was surprised not one of the back four went back to the goal line. When none of them covered the goal, my interest sparked a bit.

"[Destiny] Udogie slipped as well, which gave me a little extra opportunity. Then it was all about attempting to achieve the right connection and get it towards goal. I had a good sense, as soon as it came off my foot, that it was heading in."

'During in a Poor Run, All Seems to Work Against You'

Booing While We Are Still Playing Is Completely Unjustifiable - the Manager

Although the keeper's error led headlines, this was an all-round bad day for Spurs to continue their home ground woes.

This was their 10th home loss of the year in the league, a joint team record matching 1994 and 2003.

They still have home fixtures against the manager's old side Brentford and title holders Liverpool to play prior to the close of the year.

Only one of those wins have occurred after the manager replaced his predecessor in the summer.

"If you are behind 2-0 following the opening, there is a huge challenge to overcome," said Frank.

"During in a poor run, all aspects appears to go against you as well – the opening was a redirected shot, the next is a error from the keeper.

"The outcome leaves us in a place where we have suffered an additional match. Every game has a single narrative, this game we lost in the early stages.

"We simply need to continue striving. The second half was much better and hopefully an aspect we can use to develop."

Spurs have been defeated in four consecutive home London derbies for the first time in the Premier League.

And they are recording nine point five attempts and 3.2 efforts on goal per game in the division – their lowest averages on record in a single season (dating back to the 2003-04 season).

Former Fulham midfield player Danny Murphy commented that the manager has to ride the storm.

"He's got take the criticism," the pundit said. "He has accepted a high profile role at a huge team with enormous expectation. There is pressure and responsibility that comes with that.

"Their showings at their stadium have been disappointing and they have to get better {quickly|
