The network's Premier New Show of 2025 Gets a Substantial Extension for Two More Seasons.
During the fall season, the late-night programming block saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, not long after, the channel unveiled a completely new animated series with a markedly softer vibe. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, evoking a animated take of a serene talk show. At a time often characterized by dark humor, this show's earnestness resonated deeply and propelled it a surprise hit.
A Major Commitment
On December 18th, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the world of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the fans of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."
Network Praise
In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky appeal.
"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something deeply soothing about observing this lovable family navigate their daily lives.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa expressed his goal to evolve comedy past its long-running layer of irony. He linked this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” said Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we need to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
The Path Forward
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially catalyze that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences a little more time to experience the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is available for streaming on HBO Max.
