Vince Gilligan Reveals He Has a Plan for How Pluribus Will End... Currently.

The acclaimed writer-producer could not have predicted that the Apple TV+ show would turn into a breakout success. “The viewers have been incredible,” he remarks. “I did not foresee the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

With the first season of the acclaimed series coming to an end—and the next chapter officially in the works—the writers' room recently discussed the audience reaction and whether it will impact the narrative path of Pluribus.

Regarding the Tremendous Audience Reaction

It would be easy to get swayed by the constant speculation and audience predictions surrounding Pluribus. The creator is doing his best to avoid both.

“The experience is akin to constantly eating something incredibly sweet and being tickled to death,” he says. “It's the greatest thing, but I get wind of it from others, and that's on purpose. Not once have I searched for my own name online, nor do I ever intend to. Not because I don't care. It's a rabbit hole I know I would disappear down and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”

Regardless of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no escaping the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We make no attempt to adjust our writing,” says Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not changed by audience chatter.”

“We prefer to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan adds.

The Big Question: Will the creator Know the Finale of Pluribus?

Considering the writers aren't taking cues by public opinion, does that mean they already know how Pluribus will finally conclude? In short yes… with some caveats.

“We've developed some compelling concepts about the ultimate destination,” Gilligan says. “however, we remain prepared to abandon a good idea for a better idea. That has held us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we conceive of something superior and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

Then again, if all else fails, executive producer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to fall back on.

“I constantly suggest that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and we're in there,” Smith jokes, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Alternatively, why mess with the legendary finales?

“My dream is Carol to open her eyes with Bob Newhart there,” he jokes.

Pluribus is currently available on the streaming service.
